So, you spent a day at the top of Europe in what could be described as incredibly cold weather (and probably windy too?). Well, how about trying it all over again in a different location to cover one of the top things to do in Lucerne. That’s exactly the type of experience you can expect at Mount Titlis. Titlis is part of Uri Alps with an elevation of 10,623 feet above sea level. It has the only publicly accessible glacier in Central Switzerland area, hence a very special attraction for all tourists.
To get here, plan to board the train from Lucerne station around 7 am. You will reach Engelberg in less than 45 minutes. After walking for 10 minutes from Engelberg station, you will reach Engelberg cable car station. A 15-minute cable car ride from here will take you to the park entrance of Mount Titlis. Titlis offers a lot of attractions to tourists - a 360 degree view in a rotating cable car, an ice palace, a snow slide in Glacier park and for the bravehearts, a walk in Europe’s highest suspension bridge (seriously, do you dare?).
You can very well spend all day here or you can choose to wrap things up in about 4 hours and head back to Engelberg station around 2 pm to reach Lucerne around 3 pm. From here, head back to your hotel, get some well deserved rest for an hour and then head over to Lucerne downtown.
Lake Lucerne and Kapelbruecke bridge are located a few minutes walk away from the train station. The bridge is very famous and is a fantastic photo spot. About 15 minutes walk from the bridge will take you to the lion monument. After you visit the monument, head over right back to the bridge. Being a tourist area, you will hear roadside performers playing music throughout the evening. The area is filled with high-end restaurants on either side of the bridge and is perfect for fine dining experience. Wrap up your day with dinner in one of these restaurants and head back to the hotel to get ready for a fantastic day of hiking.
